Introducing the fascination of Kyoto-style confectionaries
Kyoto style confectionery is known for an elegant use of color and the “blur” technique to skillfully create sweets.
Decorating with a spatula "Herazaiku"
The most experienced wagashi confectioner in the store will make the Kyoto-style confectionery.
The tools used for this process are devised by each confectioner.
Please take a look at what kind of tools they use during the demonstration.
Decorating with a spoon "Sajigiri"
Wagashi tools are not limited to just spatulas. Tools are those that can express what the confectioner has in mind.
The most commonly used tool is a spoon. In Yoshihiro's experience, you will use a spoon depending on the season.
Blurring "Bokashi"
It is said that Kyoto sweets are tasted with all five senses. It is expressed with very beautiful colors. In this process, the technique of "bokashi" is necessary.
Various "bokashi" techniques are used to express the seasonal beauty of kyohagashi. You will experience making wagashi using one of the most representative bokashi techniques.

A Confectionery Experience Unique to Kyoto StyleConfectionery "Yoshihiro"
Workshop inclusions:
1,Participants will make two types of seasonal kyogashi (one of each).
The confectionery will vary depending on the season: spring, summer, fall, and winter.Participants will at times use their hands, a spatula, or a spoon to make the Kyoto style confectionery.

2,After the class, participants will be able to watch the professional confectioners craft confectionery.
A skilled Kyoto confectioner will demonstrate for participants.In Yoshihiro's class, real confectioners perform in front of you.
3,Participants can enjoy high quality maccha tea from Uji, Kyoto and sweets.
After trying their hand at making Kyoto style confectionery,participants can relax and enjoy fragrant and sweet, first-grade maccha tea from Uji, Kyoto and yatsuhashi manju, sweets that have been made by Yoshihiro since its founding and have been awarded the highest honor at the National Confectionery Exhibition.
Due to coronavirus infection control measures, we have stopped serving matcha (powdered green tea).
4,Participants will receive a certificate of completion directly from a Kyoto confectioner.
Nanami Mizuuchi will issue a Certificate of Completion for the Kyoto style Confectionery Class to participants.A picture will also be included that is certain to become treasured memorabilia

How long does the workshop last?
The sweets-making class lasts for about an hour on average.

How old are the children who can join?
Children may participate from age 3 and up, provided they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

How long can my wagashi last? And can I take them home as a souvenir?
You can eat your wagashi on the spot. If you wish to take them home as souvenirs, they should be eaten on the same day, out of direct sunlight.

Do you accept groups?
Yes, we accept groups, couples, and children. Groups, couples, families with children, etc. We can also accommodate corporate groups of up to 40 people.

Is a tea ceremony included?
No, we do not. We serve matcha green tea with Japanese sweets made by you. This matcha will be completed by Yoshihiro's staff and served to you.

Do you have a souvenir shop?
Yes, there is. We sell a variety of popular Japanese sweets as souvenirs.

Is there anything I need to bring?
If you would like to take pictures of your own kyogashi as a memory of your visit, please bring your own camera or other equipment.
